tri-Ace, Inc. (株式会社トライエース, Kabushiki Gaisha Toraiēsu) is a Japanesevideo game development company formed in March 1995 by former Telenet Japan employees Yoshiharu Gotanda (programmer, current tri-Ace President), Masaki Norimoto (game designer) and Joe Asanuma (director). The name is a play on words regarding the 'three aces' who formed the company. Most of tri-Ace's games have been published by Square Enix (formerly Enix).

The company exclusively makes role-playing video games, and is known for giving their games' action-packed battle systems and deep skill systems. This trademark style began when the founders of tri-Ace originally worked for Telenet Japan's Wolfteam, and had created Tales of Phantasia. This game, published by Namco, is a precursor to tri-Ace's own Star Ocean games in several ways; e.g., an action battle system where the player controls one character and AI controls others in the party and special battle skills that the player can assign to different buttons. Besides the Star Ocean series, they also released Valkyrie Profile in 1999. Their 2010 release of Resonance of Fate, was taken to Sega publishing.

tri-Ace games have sold over 3.8 million copies worldwide as of September 2005.^[1] The company's sound programmer Hiroya Hatsushiba formed tri-Crescendo in 1999 which has since developed several games independently of tri-Ace.

Japanese mobile company Nepro Japan acquired tri-Ace in February 2015.^[2] Despite being acquired by a company focusing on mobile gaming, tri-Ace will continue developing video games for consoles.^[3]

5. Resonance Of Fate – 2010

Resonance Of Fate is tri-Ace’s first major success. It was the second RPG released by the company, after a disappointing debut. It is a mixture of real time and turn based battles. However, you can forget about clubs, sticks and swords. Instead, you can do it from the distance with machine guns and other modern weapons. The game is only available on PS3 and Xbox 360. It is still easy to find in commerce.

4. Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time – 2004

Despite the impressive age, the third release of the Star Ocean series introduces players to real time strategies and battles. The storyline is decent enough to draw some attention, yet most of the game is based on exploration. However, the battle system is exquisite and makes the waiting worth. Just like Resonance of Fate, this game is still available over the Internet. It is only available for PS2.

Those who have played Castlevania may recognize the game play and battle system. However, this release is simpler than Castlevania. The game is not about slaying everyone around you. Instead, you can control groups on large 3D battlefields and assign each member to particular actions. Therefore, a correct attack also implies strategy and unique movements. The best part is that you have countless ways to solve missions. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is specifically developed for PS2 only.

At the same time, this original version is more active because you are limited by time. You do not always have all the time in the world to explore the surroundings and relax. In a first phase, the game was released for PS1, then ported to PSP. It is hard to find in commerce though.
